Local MP Tony Wright has said he wants to reassures constituents that contrary to rumours circulating the Internet, the Holocaust has not been removed from the school curriculum.
Tony has received several chain emails from constituents claiming the Holocaust has been removed from school teachings.
Tony said: “I can reassure constituents that the claims made in these emails are absolutely false. The Government is fully committed to teaching children about the Holocaust and has in fact invested significant money to enable pupils to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau with the Holocaust Education Trust.
“These trips are important opportunities for students to fully understand the severity of the Holocaust and the importance of keeping future generations aware of this. I attended such a trip with two sixth form students from Great Yarmouth, whom I know both found the experience a very profound one. Further Government funding of £4.65 million has recently been awarded to keep this programme running.
“People should be reassured that the Holocaust is still very much a central part of history teachings in schools and that if they see these emails, they should disregard it”.
