MP urges healthier lifestyles for 2010

MP urges healthier lifestyles for 2010

Tony Wright MP is urging people across the Borough to take part in two free weight management classes, being promoted by NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

The first, for children aged between 7 and 13 who are above their ideal weight, is the Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It (MEND) programme, which lasts 10 weeks, and helps improve diet, exercise and confidence.

The free MEND sessions are being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm at the Shrublands Centre in Gorleston, Fitness 2000 in Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft's Kirkley High School and Beccles Sports Centre.

To sign up call 01493 852207, text 07798 825145 or visit www.mendprogramme.org.

The second programme is the Do Something Different programme aimed at slimmers across Great Yarmouth and Waveney, and aims to tackle people’s behaviour rather than focusing on dieting.

The 12-week programme is being rolled out this January and the free places are open for anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in losing weight and has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 27

Health professionals will be able to refer people directly onto the programme, but individuals can also refer themselves by calling 0800 027 6413, texting CHANGE to 65000 or emailing change@dsdeast.co.uk
