MP offers advice to stop unwanted calls

Tony Wright MP is urging people in Great Yarmouth to take advantage of a free service promoted by communications watchdog Ofcom to stop unwanted calls from sales and marketing firms.

The free service, provided by the Telephone Preference Service, allows subscribers to add their details to a register which makes it illegal for a company to call you for marketing purposes in the future.

Tony said:

‘This is a brilliant free service being provided by the Telephone Preference Service. I’ve had many constituents contact me on the issue of unwanted sales telephone calls and this is a great way to stop receiving them.

The fact that you can also register your mobile number with the TPS means you can also avoid getting these nuisance calls when on the move. I urge everyone who finds sales calls annoying to take advantage of this great free service.’

Users of the service can also pick which companies they want to receive calls from, meaning that users can hear only from the companies they want to.

Full details on the service can be found at www.tpsonline.org.uk or by calling 0845 0700 707, or by checking out posters in the window of Tony’s constituency office at 20, Church Plain, Great Yarmouth.
