Local Restaurant achieves 2nd place in National Curry competition
Local Restaurant achieves 2nd place in National Curry competition at the Houses of Parliament
Popular local Indian Resturant, Planet Papadum on Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, recently came 2nd in a National competition held at the Houses of Parliament.
Up for grabs was the prestigious Tiffin Cup, an annual award given to the best curry house in the Country. The competition is held throughout the UK and nominations are made by Members of Parliament. Planet Papadum was nominated by local MP Tony Wright after he has asked constituents to vote for their favourite, and they received the most nominations.
They were then selected to represent the Eastern Region at the final in London on 15 July, with each of the 10 finalists presenting a chef’s special dish to a panel of celebrity judges including the well-known chef and TV personality Ainsley Harriott.
Tony commented;
“We had a huge response for nominations and to have our restaurant selected to represent the Eastern Region was in itself an excellent result. However, the chef excelled himself on the evening by having the honour of his dish receiving 2nd place or 1st reserve – This is a fantastic result for Planet Papadum.”
Naz Miah, the proprietor of Planet Papadum said;
“We were really excited about being picked as the favourite Indian restaurant but to then represent the Region at the final was beyond belief. There is no doubt there were nerves on the night of the final but our chef, Musa Khan, excelled himself with a dish we have named; ‘Tigers by the Sea’ – a special dish of Tiger Prawns.
I knew we would do well when the panel cleared their plates of our dish but the announcement of us getting to the top three Indian Restaurant’s in the Country was overwhelming! We would like to thank Tony Wright and all of our customers for voting and supporting us. ”
