Environment Minister to visit Great Yarmouth to observe effects of coastal erosion

Environment Minister to visit Great Yarmouth

to observe effects of coastal erosion

12 March 2010, Great Yarmouth

Tony Wright MP will welcome Huw Irranca-Davies MP, Minister for Marine and Natural Environment, to Great Yarmouth on 15 March from 10:15.

The Minister will be visiting Hopton-on-Sea at the request of Tony to view the effects of coastal erosion along that stretch of coastline, and will meet with representatives from Great Yarmouth Borough Council, the Environment Agency and residents to discuss the issue. Tony and Huw will be meeting at 55 Sea View Rise, Hopton.

Huw and Tony will then travel to Scratby to view the Coastal Change Pathfinder Project, and meet with the Scratby Coastal Erosion Group to discuss how the project is moving forward.

Tony said:

‘I am pleased that Huw has accepted my invitation to come to Great Yarmouth. I and many residents in Hopton and Scratby feel that it is important that the Minister sees for himself the devastating effects of coastal erosion along this stretch of coastline.

‘It will also be a good opportunity to discuss the Pathfinder project with Huw. Great Yarmouth was recently chosen to be one of 15 Pathfinder projects, and awarded nearly £300,000, and so this visit will also give us the chance to decide on the best way to use the money to combat coastal erosion.’
