MP Joins Civil Servants in Fight to Save Local Jobs
Public and Commercial Services Union representing members in HM Revenue and Customs based in Great Yarmouth presented local MP Tony Wright with specially commissioned. ‘SAVE LOCAL JOBS’ rock as part of their campaign to raise awareness over HMRC’s proposals to relocate 139 jobs to Norwich as part of the departments Workforce Change review program.
1,000 sticks of rock have been made to highlight the impact on the town of HMRC’s proposal to close the local tax office and is being sent to stakeholders including the Prime Minister and Jane Kennedy MP, Minister responsible for HMRC.
Already flyers have been circulated to local businesses and traders to show the potential custom that will be lost if the tax office closes.
Commenting, Colin Fox, PCS union representative in Great Yarmouth said:
“Tony Wright has been supportive of our campaign and the unions counter proposals to HMRC’s work force change proposal. As a token of thanks we wish to present him with the first stick of rock before we send it to stakeholders and townsfolk later this week. HMRC’s proposals will damage our town and its economy; we encourage the public to take part in the consultation, which ends on 6th August, by contacting Tony Wright MP who is making representations to HMRC for the retention of civil service jobs in our town”.
