Secretary John Hutton and Lord Digby Jones have this week (3 July)
announced record UK inward investment results for the period
2007-8.
The
publication of the
‘UK Inward Investment 2007/8 – Report by UKTI,’
shows
that 1,573 investment projects were won by the UK last year, in a
fifth consecutive year of inward investment growth.
The figures show:
o
45,051 new jobs created; a 23% increase on 2006/2007
o
58,488 safeguarded jobs; a 39% increase on 2006/2007
o
A total of 103,539 associated jobs (new & safeguarded); up 32%
on 2006/2007
Tony
Wright has welcomed the news given that a significant slice of it
has come into the Eastern region.
Tony
said: “Amid all the economic doom and gloom this goes to show the
UK is still a desirable place to do business.
The
Eastern region has particularly benefited from this investment with
108 projects locating here bringing with them a total of 6,383 new
jobs. This is great news”.
