£50,000 grant for Newtown Youth Centre

Christmas comes early as Newtown Youth Centre

receives £50,000 lottery grant

Newtown Youth Centre was given an early Christmas present by the Big Lottery Fund after the announcement that it will be giving the youth project £50,000 in funding to secure its immediate future.

The Big Lottery Fund agreed to award the grant in light of the huge popular support for the centre, which was unfortunately not successful in its bid for The People’s Millions funding in late November. The good news was added to when Great Yarmouth Borough Council honoured its pledge to add £10,000 to the funding pot if they were successful in the TV vote.

15 projects are to be funded to mark the 15th anniversary of the National Lottery, and Newtown Youth Centre was amongst these. The grant will go towards rebuilding the centre, which was subject to a devastating arson attack which prompted the original People’s Million bid.

Tony said:

‘This is brilliant news for Newtown Youth Centre after the disappointment of the failed People’s Millions bid. I know that everyone involved in the project have worked terribly hard to get it back on track after the fire, and this grant will go a long way to achieving this.

Newtown Youth Centre plays a vital role in the local community and is a treasured asset. I look forward to working with those involved with the project, and to seeing the new centre rise from the ashes in the near future.’
